Ismet Aslan, together with two other unionists -Giyasettin Yigit and Yusuf Eminoglu-, was released from prison after six months.
Ismet Aslan appeared at the 22nd Heavy Penal Court in Istanbul today, 26th March. He was arrested on the 7th of October under terrorism charges, a notorious law targeting oppositional figures in Turkey. While the indictment relies on an anonymous witness, the hearing today proved that the witness’ statements are fabricated and ungrounded.
The international solidarity campaign helped Ismet Aslan and KESK a lot to spread this judicial harassment. About 5000 signatures from different parts of the world demonstrated the power of solidarity, a distinctive quality of the labour and trade union movement.
The next hearing will be held on the 10th of July 2025.
