CGTP-IN message of solidarity with workers and people in Turkey

The coup that nobody claims, but is being used by Erdogan to jeopardize fundamental rights

The CGTP-IN conveys its solidarity to the Turkish workers and people, at a moment when their individual and collective rights are suffering a renewed and very strong attack carried out by the Government.

For the past years, the Turkish government has disrespected the international instruments, namely those that assure fundamental rights such as trade union freedom, collective bargaining and job security. As a result, persecutions and dismissals of trade unionists and workers who denounce the policies of repression and demand better working and living conditions have occurred.

This situation got worst with the establishment of the state of emergency and the suspension of the Charter of Fundamental Human Rights, as a response to a “coup” that no one claims, but is being used by Erdogan to prevent the Parliament from intervening and to persecute and repress those who think differently.

The trade unions’ closure, the dismissals, the “cleaning spree”, the arrests and the convictions, which violate the most elementary rights of defense, are an opening for other measures such as the reestablishment of death penalty and Constitutional changes, that Erdogan has tried so many times before without success.

The CGTP-IN condemns all the measures that jeopardize fundamental rights, demands the end of the ongoing purge and the end of the repression, and restates its support and solidarity to the Turkish workers and people in their struggle for effective freedom and rights, which are inseparable from work valuation and democracy at a political, economic, social and cultural level.
