International Trade Union Confederation and the European Trade Union Confederation issued a joint letter to protest against the ongoing governmental persecution and judicial harassment against trade unionists In Turkey. In January, the ITUC and the ETUC will attend, along with an international trade union delegation, the hearings of lawsuits brought against KESK members to show solidarity with Turkish trade unionists and to denounce the harsh anti-union attacks they face.
Today, the ITUC and the ETUC call the Government of Turkey to immediately release all the union members arrested under unproven connections to illegal organisations, to lift all bans on meetings and demonstrations and also call Turkey to abide by its European and international obligations to secure the human and trade union rights and freedoms of its workers.
